March Going Out Like a Lamb

We have had a lot of learning in the month of March in room 28.  It started out with snow and windy weather and ending with sun and warmer temperatures.

In math we are learning how to tell time.  We have learned the parts of the clock and how to tell time by the hour and half hour.  We have also been working with larger numbers.  We have worked on place value and also worked using the hundreds chart to add by one, subtract by one, add by ten and subtract by ten.  We then learned how to compare these larger number using the greater than, less than and equals signs.

In science we have been learning about light.  We learned how shadows are created.  We also learned there are different ways that light can pass through objects.  Ask your child what opaque, translucent and transparent mean. We then learned how light reflects.

We were fortunate enough to have Johnny the K back at Memorial School!  He has a wonderful message that he sends through his music!

Non fiction, Two Digit Numbers and Sound

It has been a busy month so far!  In math we starting working on place value.  First we built teen numbers with unifix cubes then we made a book Teens on the Ten Frame.  We will be continuing our work with place value and working with larger numbers.  Here we are working with partners making teen numbers and then making our teen books...

Here we are using our place value mats to build two digit numbers with our base ten blocks.

In writers workshop we shifted gears and starting our unit on non fiction writing.  We are now writing with a different voice and are teaching others about things that we are experts on.  We learned that we plan and start a non fiction story just like we would our small moment stories but now we are teaching and telling about a topic.  We have worked with our partners to help make our stories even better.  Here we are telling about our topics to a friend.

In sciernce we continue to learn about sound.  We worked with our partner and learned how about volume and how to make a sound louder and softer.  Here we are using the intruments to explore this concept.

We also had a special mystery reader...Dr Bilsborough!  She read a book to us and we talked about how the character in the story showed courage.
