Morning meeting, publishing and larger numbers

It was great meeting with everyone during conferences the past couple of weeks.  We have expanded our morning meeting routine this month.  We have added activities and more class participation.  Our morning meeting person solves the problems on the smartboard while the rest of the class uses white boards to work.  We are now working with numbers and money during this morning time.  We practice tallying and writing number equations with a number of the day.   We also practice making combinations of money using coins.  You can see us using white boards and sharing different ways to get the same amount.  Here we are hard at work...

We finished up our unit on writing small moments.  We chose one of our favorite stories to publish.  We worked with our writing partners read our stories to each other and helped to edit our stories using our first grade editing checklist.  We finished up the pictures and added a cover to make our books compete.  We are now published writers and have our books in our classroom library just like real authors!

In math we started working with larger numbers.  We made number strips  to practice writing larger numbers.  We also traced our foot and covered it using tiles and beans to practice counting larger numbers.  Here we are working to accurately cover and count the tiles and beans that we used to cover our foot.  We continue to play math games to practice our math facts.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving!
