Read Across America

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!!!

This week we all enjoyed Read Across America week.  We kicked of the celebration with a whole school assembly.  Thank you to Jack for sharing a Dr Seuss fact with the whole school!  We all enjoyed reading lots of Dr Seuss books this week.  Having multiple copies of books so we had fun reading with partners as well as by ourselves.  On Thursday we were lucky enough to have Kurt Jackson come in as our community reader.  He shared two great stories with us.  Having Kurt twice within one week is such a treat!

Math

In math the children have been working to extend the counting sequence.  We have been counting by 1s and 10s and noticing patterns on our number chart up to 120.  We have explored different ways to group in order to count larger quantities.  We also began working on place value.  We are making two digit numbers with unifix cubes and are working to understand the value of the place the numbers are in.  We played games to build and write 2 digit numbers and also tell our partner how many are in the tens and in the ones.

I look forward to meeting with everyone at the conferences this week and next.  Please make sure you have signed up for a meeting time.  There is a sign up genius link on my blog.
