STEM Project

The Three Little Pigs and The Engineering Design Process

We did a project with Mrs Groden this past week and had so much fun!  We started by reading the book the Three Little Pigs and talked about how each little pig built their houses.  After that Mrs Groden shared with us the Engineering Design Process.  The process starts by asking a question, Imagining, Planning, Creating, Testing and improve then sharing.   In groups we started the process with a challenge to build a house just like the three little pigs.  Each group was assigned to build their house with either straws, popsicle sticks or blocks.  We worked together and planned out our house.

After we planned we went to the library and we built our houses.  We were given our materials and had 20 minutes to create what we had imagined.

When we finished building,  the big bad wolf (aka Mrs Grodens' hairdryer) came and tried to blow our houses down.

We then went back and talked with our group and thought about how we think our house survived the wolf and how we could improve our design.

This was a really fun and creative way to learn about this Engineering Design Process and work together!
