Settled in and September fun!

Its hard to believe we have been in school for 20 days!  We have done so much and have settled into first grade so well.  We have our Daily 5 in full swing and I am even meeting with reading groups!  We have been writing our small moment stories in writers workshop and done a lot with strategies for adding numbers in math.  We finished our first read aloud...ask your kiddos how they like Paddington.

Here are some of us doing Read to Someone during our daily 5.

We practice our poems in our poem notebooks and we read and illustrate the poem.  You should have seen these come home also.

During Daily 5 we practice writing our sight words and we use build mix fix.

In math we have been learning strategies for help us add in organized ways.  We learned to count on, use our doubles facts and also our near doubles facts.  We use different tools to help us with our adding.

We play lots of games to practice our facts!

In writers workshop we are working on writing small moment stories.  We learn to organize our writing and write across pages by touching and telling then sketching and last writing the words.  We do our best spelling by stretching out the words and listening to the sounds.  Ask your child what a seed story is!

One of our favorite things is using our maker space tubs.  We did some creative building with our friends.  We will be getting different tub materials to work with every month.
