Wrapping up the year

To end the year we did a lot of wrapping up and special activities.  Its hard to believe that 2017 is in the books!

During writing workshop we wrapped up our unit of writing small moments.  We had a museum and read our classmates books and gave compliments to the writers about their writing.

In science we continued to learn about sound and how sound travels.  We used a spoon attached to a cup with a string to learn how the sound travels from the spoon to the cup and ways that make sound louder and softer.  We also made "telephones "with cups and string and used our voices to talk and listen to our partner.

We also did a special STEAM project with our friends across the hall in Mrs Elrick's class. We used the engineer design process and designed and built our own gingerbread houses.  It was fun to work in groups and build the houses.  The first part of the project  kids had to design their houses.  They had to think about what kid of gingerbread house they wanted to build.  They had to think about what materials they had to work with.  I loved how many different ways the kiddos thought about their designs and how well they cooperated and listened to each other to make it happen!

The second day the kids went to work building their houses.  They were given a yard of tape, pipe cleaners, pom poms, index cards, popsicle sticks, Elmer's glue and straws.  The houses came out great and the best was to see how flexible the kids worked with each other.

 Here are the final houses...

We finished up the month with a wonderful holiday party!  Thank you to everyone that helped plan this especially our room moms!  The kids had a great time!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed some time with family and friends.
