What's Happening in Room 28?

We have lots of exciting things happening in room 28.  The children were introduced to a program called Raz Kids on the computer.  We were all very excited to start this in school!   A letter was sent home with information about this as well as information for logging in.  Please check the home/school folder for this information.   This is a website that we will use in class as well as at home.  It is a great way to practice reading at an independent level.  Along with reading the children can also answer questions about what they have read.  This is just one way we will be using the computers this year.
We have also been very lucky to have had a few mystery readers visit our class.  The class always likes the anticipation of who will be coming to visit.  The visits have been great and we look forward to this every Friday.   Thank you for your great efforts to sign up and visit the class.  It is nice for the kids to have you come in.
In math we have continued building our number sense. We are working on our efficiency of counting, combining numbers and different combinations of numbers.  We came up with different combinations of 7 and 10.  We found as many ways to make these numbers and also learned what turn around facts are!  We will continue to work on combining numbers in an efficient way and showing our work on paper.

Writers workshop is always a favorite and there is usually a cheer when it is this time of day. We continue writing small moments and using our mentor author George McClements to help us bring our stories to life.  We talked about things that give energy to our stories.  Some of these include using bold letters, ellipses and describing actions in detail.  We continue to work on adding these details to our stories.

Halloween is fast approaching.  You can find information about the festivities on the Memorial School website.  Dr Bilsborough has a letter in the Tuesday packet.
