Classroom Update
Its hard to believe that September is already over. It certainly flew! Our class is in full swing with routines and daily schedule. The class has done a great job settling into first grade. Our daily five is up and running. We have worked with short "a" chunks (an, am, at and ap) in our word work center. Our word wall is filling up with our sight words. It is great to practice these word with your children at home. It will really help with their fluency. We have started our Read to Someone center in daily five. It is exciting for the children to read to their friends. In math we have continued to practice counting efficiently and adding simple numbers. We also have been working on story problems. The children are doing a great job showing their work with pictures numbers and words and writing equations. Everyone loves playing the math games. The games really help the children to be efficient at counting and adding numbers.
In writers workshop we continue to write our small moment stories. We have talked about our small moment stories being a seed in the watermelon and not a watermelon. We have worked to add details and even talking marks to bring our stories to life. It was really fun when we had a museum and the class was able to read each others stories!
