Excitement is in the air in room 28!

In math we have been working on collecting data and making representations.  We took surveys with the class and showed different ways to represent this information.   We learned who in our class is left handed and right handed, who is 6 and who is 7 and also came up with our own questions to poll the class.

In science we have continued to explore our solids.  We brainstormed properties of solids and have been experimenting with them. We experimented to see we which ones sink and float and also which ones rolled and which ones stacked.  It was fun to see which ones are attracted to magnets and which ones are not.

In writing we are so excited to be learning a new type of writing...non fiction!  The students are experts on so many things!  I am so impressed with the amount that they are writing with these books.  They are writing about things they know well and are so excited to share the things they are good at.

We have also been reading non fiction books.  We discussed the difference about a fiction and nonfiction book and will continue to read and connect our reading with our writing.

We also participated in hour of code.  Our class had a lesson on using the app Scratch Jr. where they learned to program.  Then we all used the app and created a program.  We were able to see the work in action.  It was a great introduction and we hope to use it more in the future!

We have read and done activities about the different holidays that are celebrated this month.  We will be doing more of this next week as the excitement builds to vacation.
