November Happenings!

We have been working hard in room 28!  November has a lot going on.  We learned about Veterans Day and had a special assembly Chief Wilson and her son Cadet Wilson came to school to teach us about the military and what a veteran has sacrificed for our country.

Reading Workshop 

We are also learning a lot during reading workshop and read a louds.  We have been reading stories and focusing on the main character in the story.  We read the book Wemberly Worried   after reading we discussed what a character traits describe the main character.  We practiced this reading our books in our book boxes and talked a a class who the characters were in our books and a trait to describe them.  In our reading groups we have been learning and practicing different strategies to help us when we come to a word we don't know.  These are some of the strategies we have learned...

Math

In math we have continued to work on strategies to solve addition and subtraction.  Strategies we us are counting on, using a number line, doubles facts, near doubles facts, facts with 5 on a ten frame and facts to make ten on a ten frame.  We also learned that changing the addends in and addition sentence will still have the same sum!  Here we are playing some math games to practice our strategies...

Writers Workshop

We are continuing to learn how to bring our small moment stories to life.  We are now bringing our characters to life by making them move speak and show their feelings.  We are learning to use our word wall to spell hour high frequency words correctly in our writing.  We are building our stamina for writing are are writing so much in our stories!

It has bee great meeting everyone during conferences and I look forward to meeting everyone else Thursday!
